Regenerative Medicine
Regenerative Medicine
Department website:
Oh, regenerative medicine? It's just the scientific version of hitting the "undo" button on your body's inevitable mishaps. Who needs scars and slow healing when you can have a team of genius scientists play doctor with your cells? It's like letting them rewrite your body's history while you kick back and watch the show.
This subject consists of 3 classes and 5 lectures, held in the Collegium Pathologicum, the same building where you had histology in your first year.
The course is very interesting and offers insight into the intricacies of working in a lab focused on developing new methods to repair and rebuild the body. You will work in small groups and perform experiments, with the results being used in later classes.
Don't worry-the teachers are usually very understanding, and each class should be enjoyable and stress-free. You will also get a tour of the UMB labs and might even see a lab technician in action if you're lucky!
In the last class you will be asked to present a PowerPoint presentation with a small group regarding a chosen topic that has to do with regenerative medicine.
It should be around 10 minutes long and contain all the information that the assistants asked about. This is a rather fun project where you get the possibility to dig a little deeper at home and present your topic for the rest of the class to learn.
Holding the presentation it is required to receive credit for the subject.
