Pathomorphology is an extensive course which begins already in the winter semester of the 2nd year of medical studies and concludes with a final exam in the winter semester of the 3rd year. Thus, making it one of the rather challenging courses.
This subject deals with the morphology of the different pathological diseases, therefore, the student should make sure to regularly refresh their histology knowledge - as this will be a crucial element in the students overall understanding of the pathomorphology course.
The course presents with weekly classes and lectures. Additionally, credits are written every two weeks - therefore, continuous studying is important.
Detailed information of the schedule, as well as rules and regulations is to be found on the departments individual website. It is regularly updated, therefore, students should make sure to check it regularly for important announcements.
Make yourself familiar with every teacher and their approach to questions for the credit, as this varies between the different teachers. If you have any questions - it is recommended to approach your teacher at the department, as emailing has varying degress of response rate.
Lecture and class materials are of wide importance, however, additional sources have proven to be helpful as well. A book recommended by both teachers and students is the "Robbins Pathology." This may be further aided by Osmosis. "Pathoma" and "Webpath Utah" are another extensively used sources.
Consistent reading and revision is key!
Usually set by the department with up to 30 MCQs, including up to 5 pictures. Time to write is usually 30 - 40 min. The cresits are online.
There is no passing threshold for individual credits.
Keep track of your score and the maximum possible points per semester. You need to calculate whether you passed the semester like the following: To pass, you need to have at least 55% of the maximum points per semester. Students who do not reach 55% will have to pass a midterm test.
* Midterm Test
30 MCQ test at the end of a semester. 55% of points are required to pass. In case of failure, an oral exam with the Head of Department will be organised.Held after three semesters during the examination session. The representative can suggest a date.
First part: 20 to 25 slides presented on a projector, 30 seconds per slide, each slide shown at least twice (i.e. repeated at least once). The answer is registered by choosing the correct option - no writing required.
Second part: 95 to 100 multiple choice questions with one correct answer. Questions are about the whole course, with each topic having an equal amount.
Both parts are written consecutively in one sitting, which is approximately 2.5 hours long (but most students finish earlier).
Bonus Points
Two conditions: 1) Students who participated in over 90% of classes get bonus points on the exam. 2) The sum of credit points sets the amount of bonus points.Exemption
No exemption possible.Credit is received upon passing the final exam, and will be presented as a grade - which is derived from the Final Exam.
