Department website:
Due to the nature of the patients in such a department, all doors to the department are locked from both sides and can only be open using keycards. It is best for students to arrive all at once and wait for their colleagues in front of the department before buzzing in.
The changing room is located downstairs on the basement level. A teacher will have to lead the groups downstairs in order to open the necessary doors.
Donate your old clothes ♻️
A teacher mentioned that they frequently get admitted patients with lack of proper clothing, and encouraged us to bring our unwanted, clean clothes. Be a good samaritan by helping the less fortunate and thereby doing a deed for the environment :)Lectures are very informative and included multiple choice questions at the end as a means to review and discuss the topics with us. There are no lectures in the 6th year.
Seminars and Classes were held together in our year (24/25), and were doubled up. The whole course was held in the seminar room on ground floor. Patients were brought to the seminar room and invited to discuss their history after the seminars ended. No attendace was taken, and breaks were given between topics/presentations/patients.
During your course, assistants could require students to hold a presentation to get credit for the classes; this never happened in the two years we had it, though.
Bring your red Booklets!
Remember to collect signatures in your red booklet throughout your time here for tasks completed in the Psychiatry Department.Scheduling: Depending on how your schedule is put together, the Psychiatry final exam could be one of your early finals in 6th year.
Exam Format: The final exam consists of 50 multiple choice questions with one correct answer. The questions were mostly straightforward and of short to medium length, with a few case-based scenarios.
Passing Criteria: The requirement to pass the exam is 60%. The fail grade in the past years has typically been quite low. However, in 2024/25 around 30/77 students failed the first attempt due to the department creating more challenging questions that aligned with the updated guidelines of DSM-5 and ICD-11.
Time Allocation: We had 50 minutes for the exam in total, giving one minute per question. Despite most questions being short to medium length, many students found the time limit demanding, or even overwhelming for some, due to the new difficulty level of the exam.
Exam Procedure: Before the exam started, each student was handed out a question booklet and an answer sheet. There were two different sets of the exam. To guarantee objectivity, the question sets in both versions were the same, however they came in a different order. Results were published on Verbis (virtual university) 4 days after the exam. Insight was granted in the days after the results were announced.
Preparation: Preparing with lecture slides, flashcards, notes from previous 6th-year students, the LEK question bank, the practice questions in the recommended textbook (see above) and having paid attention during classes proved sufficient to pass the exam.
Exam Retake
The retake is either oral or written depending on the failing rate.Exemption
No exemption possible. You will receive credits after having passed the final exam.
Your grade will be solely derived from the exam.
For the grading scale, look on the department's website or pinboard.
