Labratory Medicine is a branch of medicine that deals with diagnostics based on all sorts of clinical specimen - and all the ways in which this data can be collected, interpreted and used for proper diagnostics.
This is an extensive subject which covers a lot of ground. Therefore, it is important to stay organized and keep track of all the presented materials. The course presents with 10 lectures and 15 labs. Lectures and seminars are conducted online. The classes will take place in person at the hospital.
The lab schedule is presented on the departments website. There you will find detailed information about the topics discussed during the class.
It is crucial to prepare for each lab - as almost every lab assistant will quizz you (orally). Materials needed for preparation are presented in the "didactic material" tab on their website. Download the class list from the website, read specified pages in books, and use the handouts from the website. It is also recommended to watch You Tube to get an overall understanding of the material and to be able to revise easily.
Actively take notes during classes to structure and overview any information, as you can easily become overwhelmed before the final exam if you're not keeping track of yourself.
The course concludes with a final exam during the winter exam session.
During the academic year of 2023/2024, there were no lab quizzes. You will receive the information on the first day so do come prepared in case there will be one.
The final exam is scheduled during the winter exam session. Each teacher will submit 3-4 questions from their class - after which the Head of Department will consider 1-2 questions from each Lab. It's important to keep in mind that lecture questions will be included as well. However, these often overlap with the class material as you will realise.
Ask questions when confused, and make a system that suits you best.
During the academic year of 2023/2024 the students were promised only MCQ during the final and were still given some open questions. Make sure you study for both types of examinations.
The final exam will have a separate answer sheet that has to be filled in. 60% were required to pass and most students agreed that enough time was given. The results will be uploaded on the Virtual Deans Office within 2 weeks time.
Credit is received upon passing all the labs and the final exam, and will be presented in the form of a grade.
The grade is solely derived from the final exam score.
Consider the department website for the grading scale.
