Biostatistics
Biostatistics
Department website:
As intimidating as Biostatistics may sound, don’t worry. The course takes place in the first semester of the second year. The teachers are very nice and will explain the material until you understand it. There isn't much else to say about this subject. You'll have a few in-person lectures, and the teacher will provide the presentations. The rest of the course consists of weekly classes. If you pay attention during the classes, it will be much easier to prepare for the subject.
The course layout is very similar to the IT course from the first year. You will work with Excel and paper worksheets. The course focuses on making data analysis approachable. You'll gain a solid understanding of the basics of statistical research and key concepts of significance. By the end, you'll be able to confidently interpret studies and the statistics they use.
A credit is held at the end of the course, consisting of open questions, multiple-choice questions, as well as graphs to interpret.
In the last class, ask the teacher which topics are most important— she will tell you what to study and what to do to be as prepared as possible. Some groups may take the credit together, while others will take it individually during class hours, but each group will receive a different version of the credit. So, there's no point in trying to be sneaky :)
Since there will be calculations in the credit, bring your calculator. They will provide calculators if needed, but you'll probably feel more comfortable with your own.
Retake
Every student gets one retake and usually the teachers will decide the date with those that have to retake the credit test. After the first attempt, the teachers will go through the credit in person. If you are unsure of your mistakes, it is worth attending! The credit consists of the credit test.
You will need 60% to get the credit.
No grade will enter your transcript for this subject.
