Biophysics
Biophysics is a course that has the duration of one semester. It is a combination of online lectures, seminars and in-person practical classes which occur once a week.
The three main topics covered are radioactivity, optics and electromedicine. There will be a designated professor covering each topic and you will have 3 classes with them.
You will conduct experiments and laboratory exercises that you will need to input the results of into your laboratory book, which must be signed by your professor at the end of each class.
Attendance is mandatory and if you are absent you will have to make up for your missed classes. Participation is incredibly important in these classes as you can gain up to 2 bonus points per class, with a maximum of 18 points up for grabs, so you must come to class prepared on the content that will be covered during that class. Be ready to answer questions, ask your own questions and be engaged with the topic material.
Remember your professor would much rather you answer and be wrong, than sit quietly and not make an attempt, as long as you show you’re eager to understand and learn you will be fine. These bonus points will be so important when it comes to sitting the colloquium as they not only help you reach the pass mark but can allow you the opportunity to get exempted from sitting the final exam.
The colloquium is a multiple choice exam that occurs usually at the end of semester one. In order to sit the colloquium students must have completed all exercises in their laboratory handbook accurately, and each exercise must be signed by the professor taking the class. The test consists of 40 questions, 30 of the questions covering practical topics and the remaining 10 covering lecture topics. The duration of the exam is one hour. The pass mark is 24 points (60%). You must pass the colloquium to sit the final exam.
Your colloquium score is combined with additional bonus points obtained during class.
